When I think of nightfall, I think it'd be great if while you were adventuring, everything suddenly got a lot darker and enemies started comin out of the woodwork or got tougher. Anybody who's played Castlevania 2 or watched the Silent Hill movie will know what I'm talking about. So maybe day and night cycles would occur every 4 real world hours? Man if this does get implemented, I hope we don't see towns packed with cowering players who don't wanna go out in the dark Man imagine the trade spam every 4 hours. Night market anyone?
Another possibility, maybe they'll have another alliance system where instead of luxons vs kurzicks, it's dark vs light where you can push your light or dark influence across the land depending on which areas you own. And you would have new 1.5k or 15k light or dark armour where if you're wearing light armor and you're in light areas, you gain +10 armor, but get -10 armor if you're in darkness. Now this or course sounds neat on paper. But seeing as how the line between current luxon and kurzick territories barely moves anywhere, the system would probably need a serious overhaul so that territories and influence would actually do move around more.

It's gotta be Orr, I tell ya!
You wanna know what I think? I think this new chapter will take place in Orr. My reasons being:
Look in your manuscripts (prophecies):
Connections between Orr and Africa?
- Arah. Now doesn't that sound like the type of theme they're shooting for here?
- The lore also mentions Lost Scrolls. Sound familiar? I thought so.
Cataclysm = Nightfall?
- Quote:
"The beautiful city of Arah was consumed. What’s left above water now lies in a pile of ruins, blackened by the Cataclysm and years of neglect. All that remains in the wreckage of Orr are the wandering dead—those souls unable to rest in the shadow of this great disaster."
-Quote: History of Tyria, Volume 1
"The resulting explosion sank the entire peninsula and sent enough dirt into the air to blot out the sun for a hundred days." OMG HOW OBVIOUS CAN IT GET =)
The world and its population?
- The world can only be so big. Adding even more lands would mean less people per outpost, and there are already so few as is! (look at the Jade Quarry, pssht) And since there are so many empty spaces in Tyria, they should add it right there, where it's supposed to be, beside the Crystal Desert!
XC
EDIT: After doing some research on Encyclopedia.com,
ARAH [Arah] . In the Bible, family in the return from the Exile.
This could mean that Chapter 3 is about the people of Orr returning to their land.

1.As for the Assassin/Ritualist-
It should be obvious to anyone, that the only way we will get more skills for these classes will be through game updates (think sorrow's furnace) for Factions itself.
2.As for the "more content" - Duh. That means it will be a bigger game than Factions, it doesnt mean it will add more content to chapter 1 and 2. This goes against the concept of modular expansions. What we will get for the 6 core classes will be similar to how Factions handled it... a new 'core' set for that specific gameworld. We will see about the same amount of new skills that we saw in Factions.
3.I doubt (even though itd be cool) that we will see the "implemented day/night cycle" - that would be a lame way to start this new chapter off. As the one guy quoted above, the land of Orr is in darkness.
People really need to think about their little ideas, because if the Mod Team for Nightfall was people from these forums, I think the game would suck. People have no clue as to the structure of the game engine...

actually the concept of night wouldn't suck. At night if different foes come out and are harder to fight will be cool. They can do something with this, like have ultimate bosses appear at night and drop really good modded weapons, making them rarer than any weapon/item in the game.
remember Anet said that each game will be unique in its own way.

Fun Fact: There is all ready a map in Guild Wars (Factions) that alternates from day-to-night.
Go to Senji's corner, walk SW from Senji himself towards the corner with the pile of trash. The sky will change to night and the moon will pop out of nowhere.
Looks really goofy and lame.

I think everyone is exactly backward on this. Nightfall is the moment when day changes to night. I expect that the desert is is permanent daylight and the heroes need to bring about 'Nightfall'.
As far as continental similarities go, African tribes are historically big on trade, so it would be logical for this expansion to include the Auction/similar functionality that Gaile has mentioned in the past.
I personally don't hate the idea of mounts, but if the concensus is against it, what do you think of Dungeon Siege style pack animals? Otherwise, I would restrict it to a class, like knights and their chargers (or Saracens, given the location) or Rangers and their Pets.

Somewhere in this post, it said there were hints about factions in prophecies.
Where were they??? I didn't see any...
As for the mounts, I agree that they shouldn't be in. Think of a npc on one, it would agro anything within ur radar with the mount... Monk nightmare....
And that would be cool if there is an expansion where we have to go to the mists or watever where the mursat first were, tho that might be to hard....
As for expansion pack 3, since there are so many open spots in tryia, I think that it should take up those open spots, its just that in order to access those new areas, you would need to buy the expansion. Arena Net could block off the new areas with doors similar to the ones they use in factions. I'm pretty sure there would be more than enough room in tyria for a new, huge, area...

“It was as if Night Fell upon us”.
Crimson Skull leader asking for help
“It was as if the day changed to Night”
caretaker of the Maat Shrine
I am now convinced the Nightfall term is used to describe the many chaos portals that will open in Elonia. I really believe this after the mini quest on Shing Jea island I believe that TOPK was a precursor event for Nightfall and we did not realize it at the time. Maybe the Event Horizon at TOPK had a bigger impact then we thought? Wasn't TOPK built by the Elonians?

Also, the ghostly hero in the Tomb of the Primeval Kings outpost:
"One moment I was moving to claim the center of the Hal; the next, darkness filled my vision and twisted, nightmarish creatures erupted from everywhere at once."
I actually was messing around in the Tombs the day before the event started, and read that text. It made me wonder if this does have anything to do with Nightfall.

I'm sure there's probably a post or two in here that may have these tidbits posted already, but I periodicly check another favorite GW site for info concerning Chapter 3, they were good about keeping on Factions news, i'm sure they can do it again for Nightfall.
Anyhow, here's what I will add to the pile of speculation and crowd buzz:
IGN Reports
May 11 2006
"Starting on a rocky beach, the demo focused on a somewhat run-down dock and a massive, swan-shaped ship with sails that looked like dragonfly wings. From there the game transitions to a North Africa style savannah. Green trees, rocky outcrops and gaily painted mud huts decorate the landscape. We soon traveled to a very interesting windmill that had a hawk-like figure on its top."
GameSpy Reports:
May 11 2006
"The scene then shifted to a much larger, grander city filled with minarets and pointed roofs that more resembled classic Persian styles. That was confirmed as the camera sped toward the center of the city to reveal a stunning collection of vegetation and artfully arranged waterfalls that put me in mind of the famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon -- literally in this case as some of the plants were floating in planters magically hovering above the ground."
both/all found here.
http://www.crossingtyria.com/v2/inde...45&Item id=66
now, sure sure this may be regurgitated (sic) from a previous post, if not.. cool. If so, oh well.
But I appeal to the idea of a Babylonian setting, especially floating planters, (I want that for my own house!)
Another thing that also dawned on me is that the Tengu were really fleshed out alot more in Factions, and there's alot of nice storyline to work with. They also dress very tribal (by nature) to begin with. It could work to some advantage here for Nightfall perhaps? Hell, i'd even raise a brow if there was actually a new playable race finally. It could happen.
Anyhoo, i'm just throwing a few crumbs into the pile here. I liked the two paragraphs describing what has been seen so far for Chapter 3. And I also like a few people's ideas of druid or animal (shapeshifter) ideas.. (perhaps an Amazon [Diablo-eqsue] class would be interesting, come on it's not unique to just Diablo either, it could happen!) there's alot of good ideas, and alot of not-so good ideas. But ultimately, I being on the positive/optimistic side here, will be looking forward to Nightfall no matter what.
So, about those floating planters...

How is that a mosque? Doesn't look like any mosque I have seen...A floating castle more like.
With pvp arena's like Fort Aspenwood in Factions it looks like castle seigeing would be easily implemented and would rock my world. CASTLE SIEGES PLEASE!

Yeah, and if we think about it, IF I am correct, A-net said they had 2 different teams working on every other chapter. Well, didn't the team that's working on Chapter 3 do the Prophecies campaign??!? Of course, they would know everything ABOUT the Elonians, since that was the team that came up with them and their story! Just like how the Factions team will be the ones to start working on Chapter 4. So you're on to something here GloryFox. I believe your theme more than a North African theme, or Antartican theme
